One of the benefits of my job is the ability to take classes. Click here to view the blog for the class
Santa Monica bike path
Once again I was lucky enough to find myself in California! This time I rented a bike and rode the the bike path from some where north of Santa Monica down to Venice Beach.
You can see the pier in this image, it's about 1/3 the way up from the bottom of the track.
Click here to see a nice image of the pier in Venice beach that I made in November 2005

Burlington Vt, To Portland Me
I recently had the opportunity to travel with Harjit to Portland Maine.
We took two different routes, one route was 5 miles longer than the other, but faster. In the image below, we took US93 North to Route 4 east over to Portsmouth NH. It's a secondary road with a bunch of stop lights and little towns. On the return trip we used 101 West (the lower track), it's longer but faster because it's all highway.
Going south to Portland:
BTV
US89 South
US93 North
NH 4 East
US95 North
250 miles: 65.1 avg m/hr
Going north to Burlington:

255 miles: 71.3 avg m/hr
We went over a couple hills too....

La Jolla Canyon California
I recently had the oppotunity to hike La Jolla Canyon in La Jolla California. It's a pretty easy hike, about 7 miles around the canyon. You start at basically sea level and climb over 1000ft. The views are amazing, well worth the trip.
This is the altitude profile of the hike.
I you have Google Earth installed on your computer Click Here to view the track
I hope to have a few more pictures to post soon.

A new blog for technology posts
This would be my "other" blog where I post tech stuff. The first post is a problem I solved over the weekend, where I needed to use a data bound ASP.NET list box, but also have a blank row. Anyway..
Check it out here.

This is a track from Georgia Vermont to West Danville Vermont, in a couple different formats.
The Route...
LandSat photos...
The profile of the track above. It's basically lake Champlain (you can see the lake off to the left) to Joe's Pond (near the end of the track), an altitude increase of about 1500 feet.

Pitless Adapter
Overnight last night the Pitless Adapter on my well casing broke. The connector was fine, but the connection on the distribution line on the outside of the well casing had split. I hired an excavator (my neighbor) and dug up my yard. It was about 20 degrees outside when we were doing this. It took a couple hours to diagnose and repair.
A couple shots of the excavator work
All cleaned up, just need some grass seed

Griffith Park California
The other day I hiked to Griffith Observatory. It was a nice walk up a very big hill. From the trail you can get a really nice view of the Hollywood sign. This sign was a little more concerning to me though.

Bowkers Woods Lower Trail
The elevation graph, as you can see it's pretty flat
A GPS plot of the trail
This is another trail maintained by the Laurel Hill Assocition.
It's a nice trail along the Housatonic River in Glendale Massachusetts.
To access this trail, travel on Route 183 out of Stockbridge. In Glendale, past the park turn right and travel down the hill toward the river. Cross the river, and park on the other side of the rail road tracks. Walk to the top of the hill, the trail begins on your left just after the crest of the hill.
The Mary Flynn Trail
We went on a short hike in Stockbridge Massachusetts this past weekend. The Mary Flynn trail is a very easy walk on a crushed stone paved trail.

In another life...
A long time ago in a job far far away I used to be a mechanic. One day I got a call to put a motor in a car. But I had to go there at night after work, it was all hush hush. Well, turns out I had to re-install the motor in this car. They had used the car to film the ride for Universal Studios.
